A Noob's Guide to Clan Wars Base Defense

OMG: Am I noob?

I've seen a lot (like at least 4) people in clan wars who are noobs. I don't they really mean to be, they just... are.

As a noob (or indeed anyone really) there are just a couple things you have to do to make your clan wars defense impenetrable to someone of equal or lower level:

  1. Ask for wizards and archers in your clan castle
  2. put your clan castle somewhere where the enemy can't trigger the troops
  3. ...
  4. Profit!
Since step 1 is easy a step 3 and 4 are not really steps we can boil this down to: put your clan castle somewhere where the enemy can't trigger the troops.

As I've shown previously, if you have high level archers and wizards in your clan castle it will do all the damage for you (if you can keep them alive!). And that's where the above rule comes into play.

Pro tip: Many people might not know this, but you can tap on your opponents clan castle when scouting their base to see its range (the white circle shown below)! The troops in the castle will continue to empty while the attacker has a live enemy troop in the circle (yes it will stop half-emptied!)

Most folks are like this fellow (let's call him bigkell to preserve his identity):

Not doing it right!
They throw their clan castle on side of their base as an after thought (sorry not to pick on your bigkell, you are representative of the masses). After all what use is it once all the troops are out!?

Now I 100% agree, once all the troops are out of the clan castle, it is worthless. However, what your opponent has to do to actually pull all those troops out is really what matters. If we look above, I can drop a couple barbarians easily within the circle and empty all of the clan troops. After that it's a simple mop up with archers before attacking the base.

But what if we take a different approach and made the attacker commit a large number of troops to empty the clan castle? Take a look at one of my clan mate's bases who is doing it right:

bexmoney's base is money!
Notice where bex put his clan castle. Right smack dab in the middle! And look at that circle! How the *&(# am I going to empty that?

As an attacker I now face a few difficult questions:
  • How many troops do I have to commit to ensure that all the troops get pulled out of the clan castle?
  • If that number is high, will that leave my secondary attack too weak?
  • Should I just try and lighting the troops instead of luring them out and killing them? (hint: NO)
  • etc...
This leaves plenty of outcomes where your wizards are mowing down giant/hog stacks and generally making your attacker very sorry they chose your base to attack.

Notice that I haven't said a word about what defenses to put where. That's because if you can just get a couple wizards throwing fireballs into your opponents attack stack, you've already won.

No go re-arrange your base!
